do you ever get the sense that people don’t realize that Delaware is home to 2 of the biggest leaches on the federal and state governments in the entire United States? I sure as hell do.
It amazes me that Bank of America who has credit card operations in Delaware and Astra Zeneca who produces a myriad of drugs to sell to the government at whatever cost they feel is appropriate get a pass from local media and our politicians.

The debtor’s revolt continues on YouTube with nary a peep by any one. The “donut hole” plan that is sucking tens of billions of taxpayer dollars for medicare is essentially propelling Astra Zeneca to record profits quarter after quarter. I drive by Azeneca a dozen times a week and I pass by the mutliple BofA sites monthly during my travels.
Yet, off like ants, rats, lemmings, sheep or whatever follow the herd like organism you can name, people pass them never giving it a thought that those companies are pillaging us. We keep electing the same idiotic Dems and Republicans year after year that allowed these guys the land to build on, that allowed their tax breaks that help their profitability and they allowed them to take advantage of the American People all at their individual profit. Thank God they brought jobs to Delaware. America thanks you Minner, Carper, Castle, Biden. Without AZ or BofA, where would our country be!
Even as drug makers promise to support Washington’s health care overhaul by shaving $8 billion a year off the nation’s drug costs after the legislation takes effect, the industry has been raising its prices at the fastest rate in years.
Isn’t that so nice of them to raise prices? I’m sure they are doing it because of inflation? Obama is trying to find a way to give people an extra $250 because for the first time in years there was no cost of living increase for Social Security thought. Odd. Geeee, I can’t think of a group of citizens paying thousands of dollars a year for prescriptions that would be affected by drug companies raising their prices at the fastes rates in years. I can’t even think of any in Delaware. I can’t even think of any that our senators, congressmen, governor and on and on support and cater to. Nope, not one. it never applies locally. We just get angry at other states. After all, they are so messed up. Not Delaware!
We gave umpteen millions of dollars in tax breaks to AZ and to BofA just to keep and/or create jobs in Delaware and what do we get out of it? They have both slowly cut jobs and helped send our Unemployment rate to almost 10%. No penalty? We don’t take away their tax breaks as the states tax base erodes and it has to pay out unemployment benefits. Anyone ever driven downtown to Adams Four area? Does it escape you that Chase, BofA, Bank of Ny, Wilmington Trust, and on all reside in the city of Wilmington? No? Nahhhh, me either.
But thank god we have Markell in office, he gave us open government. he is a corporate minded politician. All I hear when people say that is “big business darling”.
Big business rules in Delaware and like helpless date rape victims we allow the criminals to continue their deviant behavior year after year after year. Why? Because people have to work to pay the bills. Because, if they leave, then what happens? Could you imagine the fallout if all those companies left and went to another pro business state that allows them to charge any interest rate they want? People are dying to move to South Dakota you know!
“When we have major legislation anticipated, we see a run-up in price increases,” says Stephen W. Schondelmeyer, a professor of pharmaceutical economics at the University of Minnesota. He has analyzed drug pricing for AARP, the advocacy group for seniors that supports the House health care legislation that the drug industry opposes.
It’s such a joke that more people aren’t angry out there. Ggod forbid you march or do something that would require taking off from work for a day. Can you imagine telling your employer, “yes, I need off to go march against B of A getting bailout money and laying off citizens”. That should go over really well. God forbid that you could get written up and it affect your performance appraisal. Then, 2 more occurrences you can be let go.
But no one fights for you. They fight to keep jobs here. So, they have done their job by creating jobs and as a result you should be happy and grateful. Lucky you. Keep bending over and taking it and repeat the mantra, I have a job, I have a job. Say it in cadence with the ass-pounding you are taking. Keep driving by that wonderful space on RT 202 and downtown Wilmingon that our government gave away for pennies. They get tremendous tax breaks just to bring jobs to our state though. I love my job, I love my job….
And this means that the cost of many popular drugs has risen even faster. Merck, for example, now sells daily 10-milligram pills of Singulair, the blockbuster asthma drug, at a wholesale price of $1,330 a year — $147 more than last year. Singulair is now selling at retail, on drugstore.com, for nearly $1,478 a year.
Bow before them all, both the politicians and the CEO’s. You should be grateful they provide you with a source of income you pathetic worker bee. Thank your local politician for giving companies like Chase, B of A, AZeneca, DuPont, and dozen more their tax breaks on income. After all, the workers pay taxes! Why should they too? Double Taxation…whaaaaaaa. Without those jobs you would have nothing. don’t be upset. Thousands, tens of thousands of seniors in the 3 or 4 senior homes on Shipley and Foulk Road aren’t affected. Your parents are bothered by this increase. Your worried about the deficit, I’m sure this won’t do anything to add to it. Nahhhhhhh. It’s all good. R&D is expensive!
Don’t get angry it will only make things worse. Just lie there…shhhhhhhh…we aren’t a big mega corporation doing nothing for your community…shhhhhhhhhhhh….we give you life….shhhhhhhhh…it’s ok…..shhhhhhhh…. you pay taxes not us…..we are your bread, body and blood….shhhhhhhhhh….drive by us and be angry at the poor person crossing in front of your car…it’s all his fault…not ussssssss….shhhhhhhh…..we are wonderfull
Ken Johnson, senior vice president of the industry association — the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America — criticized the analysis Professor Schondelmeyer had conducted for AARP, saying it was politically motivated.
Don’t worry, I’m sure that a professor making tens of thousands would have a serious motive to exploit the profit making of an industry sucking off the federal teet. Not a lobbyists representing the group making the billions in profit from medicare.
Remember, only greedy fortune 100 companies reside in other States…Not Delaware. Not the banks that got Bailout money. Not the Big Phara that doesn’t have to negotiate prices and tells the government what they have to pay for the drugs they buy from them.
