— President Obama’s News Conference: Formal, hour-or-so-long Q&A sessions with the White House press corps have been relatively rare since President Obama took office. His appearance in the East Room today at 11 a.m. ET marks just the eighth such session the president’s held and his first since May 27, according to the unofficial historian for White House correspondents, CBS News’ Mark Knoller.

Obama has a communications problem, which is ironic when you think about how he campaigned. He is not seen as a very “fierce advocate” of his agenda items, preferring instead to work in the background and not step forward to claim credit until hours before a bill is ready to sign. But doing so cedes a large part of the public debate on the issue to others.

If, instead, Obama were taking questions on a regular basis and forcefully standing up for his ideas and his perception of day-to-day issues, he would do a much better job of making his case to the American people. Instead of Robert Gibbs saying things like “this is where the president stands on this issue,” in his press briefings, Obama should be out there saying it himself on a regular basis.

Obama’s better than what the R’s can serve up…but I really expected more from him and was hoping it wouldn’t come down to supporting Obama b/c he is the lesser of 2 evils

Last spring, when Larry Cylc took over as head football coach at Brandywine High School, the school placed an ad looking for assistant coaches.

Among the respondents was a former player with something few people in the football world can boast — four Pro Bowl appearances and three Super Bowl rings.

Now, as the Bulldogs approach their Sept. 11 season opener against Wilmington Friends, the new assistant coach with the NFL pedigree is on the practice field.

It’s hard to miss Erik Williams, all 6-foot-6 of him.

“I didn’t know of his presence in the area,” Cylc said. “Just a great find, to have an All-Pro give you a call and want to coach on your team.”

….Williams played nine of his 10 NFL seasons for the Eagles’ most hated rival, the Dallas Cowboys, then played five games with the Baltimore Ravens in 2001.
